The preponderance of men generally, in naturist activity, is disheartening, but reflects the effects of many hundreds of years of exploitation of women as sexual objects, more recently in the media, bars, and the fashion industry. The equality of body acceptance is moving at a snail’s pace, but nonetheless women have made great gains in the past 30 years. Non-sexual public nudity is a difficult norm to establish, but has net benefits of lowering crime, abuse and harassment, and producing in children a more psychologically mature adult at an earlier age. (See for example, “Therapy, Nudity & Joy” by Dr. Aileen Goodson, Elysium Press, 1991) Naturism as a worlwide social movement has considerably advanced casual nudity at home, in remote areas, and at selected resorts and parks, in over 90 countries.
